abstract

in this study 485 specimen of garra rufa (heckel, 1843) from 29 populations from six river systems and basins including tigris, karkheh, karun, persis (helleh and mond), hormuz and maharlu were collected by a 5mm mesh sized seine net, anesthetized in 1% clove oil solution, fixed in 10% formalin and transferred to the laboratory for further investigations. some 28 morphometric, 25 morphometric proportion and 10 meristic traits were examined. different mean comparison methods, parametric and non-parametric analyses were used for statistical analyses. in comparison of the six aforementioned basins, for the proportions, kruskal-wallis non-parametric test and analysis of variance (anova) for all the other traits, but the ratios of dorsal fin base/sl and pectoral fin/sl, showed significant differences (p<0.05). amongst the meristic traits, except the number of vertebrae, caudal fin rays and pharyngeal teeth, all other traits were significantly different. based on the compared data, none of the populations could be distinguished from each other.

Habitat effects on morphological variation of Garra rufa (Heckel, 1843) populations in Iran

Understanding the processes involved in evolution of organisms is a principal topic that has received much attention from the research community. A common way to achieve this is to study the ecological conditions and morphological relationships of taxa. Fish are widely regarded as notable animal models in studies of environmental influence on morphological features given their high environmenta...

Study of diversity and morphometric differentiation of of Garra rufa (Heckel, 1843) populations in Fars province

This investigation was conducted to study of diversity and distinction of Garra rufa in some aquatic ecosystems located in Fars province. So, 208 samples were collected from five aquatic ecosystems located in Fars province (Rudbal river, Babasheikh Khalil subterranean, Qaderabad subterranean, Doudabad subterranean, Khargheh river) and 24 morphological traits were measured. Before data analysis,...

genetic characterization of garra rufa (heckel, 1843) populations in tigris basin, iran using microsatellite markers

the isolation-by-distance theory states that the genetic differentiation between individuals raised by increasing geographic distance. therefore, this study tested this hypothesis for garra rufa , a freshwater fish species of iranian inland waters, from six rivers located at the different distances in tirgis basin. for this purpose, eight variable microsatellite loci were applied to identify ge...

Diet and feeding indices of Garra rufa Heckel, 1843 in Gheshlagh River, Kurdistan Province

This study was conducted to survey the feeding indices of Garra rufa in Gheshlagh River, Kurdistan Province. Seasonal sampling carried out during spring, summer, autumn and winter of 2018 using electrofishing and cast net with 20 mm mesh size. For diet analysis, 40 number of Garra rufa was used. The length and weight of sampled fishes was renged of 56 to 137 cm and 2.5 to 37 g, respectively. Th...

تحلیل ریخت سنجی هندسی فلس جهت شناسایی جمعیت های مختلف گونۀ Garra rufa Heckel, 1843

Garra rufa is one of the 73 Garra species of the family Cyprinidae. Scales are used more commonly than any other structure in population dynamic studies, because of their transparency, ease of sampling, and the minimal in-juries caused to the fish during their removal. To discriminate fish from different rivers including Bashar, Behbahan, Gerdab, Kheirabad, Kooshk-e-Bahram, Mazoo, Palangan, Sen...

spawning induction in doctor fish, garra rufa (heckel, 1843) by ovaprim and captive rearing of larvae

the stimulatory effect of ovaprim, a commercial spawning inducing agent consisting of salmon gonadotropin releasing analogue (gnrha) and a dopamine d2- receptor antagonist, domperidone, was studied in doctor fish, garra rufa (heckel, 1843) under hatchery conditions. the feeding and rearing condition effects on the survival rate of naturally produced larvae were also evaluated. twenty-five fish ...
